2014 trending topics

2014 has been a crazy year, from Ebola to missing air planes to the Worldcup. I picked out some of the best topics to give my opinion on and chat about ;)

Here we go:

ALS Ice bucket Challenge
Everyone who has a name has done it. It appeared to just start out of nowhere and suddenly you could watch Taylor Swift, Mark Zuckerberg, Justin Bieber and more pour ice water over themselves. I personally think it is awesome as it raised immense awareness for the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and lots of donations. Moreover it is funny to watch, especially if it goes wrong ;) It has been criticised tho for wasting water and being unhealthy. Still, I think whoever created it was a genius and it was a success.

Ebola
If you are still in school or college or something where people like to behave childish, then you will have heard this word every single day for the past few months. I'd sneeze and someone would start screaming 'OMG YOU HAVE EBOLA'. Not funny, especially if you know how many people died because of it. But I still think that if you live in, say the UK ,then it is highly unlikely that you will ever have Ebola! There are many other diseases you should probably be more worried about, such as cancer, but still people started panicking after it appeared in the news. It got massive media attention and so the word is now on Google's list of most searched terms in 2014. Oh well...

Frozen
Yup I had to include it. The massive new Disney movie which finally teaches young girls they don't need a man to survive ;) As corny as the message might seem, in my opinion Frozen still is one of the best Disney animations ever and I love it to bits. Totally deserves a place on the list of the most popular topics 2014!

Conchita Wurst
Thomas Neuwirth has managed to gain immense attention through his drag personality Conchita Wurst, who even won the Eurovision Song Contest. I am all about freedom and the right to display who you really are, but Conchita did confuse me quite a lot. First of all, she (or he) really does look like a woman apart from the beard, so when I first saw her I did not know whether it was just a female who wanted to let it all out, or a man in drag. Anyway, I think he/she deserves a massive 'Well done' for the courage and passion he showed this year!

World Cup
As I was born in Germany I do still support the German football team in the World Cup. And, funnily enough, I was in Germany at the time of the final match, which was an incredible experience. I have never seen such a positive and ecstatic atmosphere where everyone literally celebrates for days on end. It was great and even though I know many of you aren't from Germany, I still hope you enjoyed the World Cup as much as I did.

FIRST KISS on youtube
Don't lie, you've seen this! And loved it. It's just one of those things you can't get around. I really enjoyed watching the video (in the most innocent way) as I think it's just super cute. There have been so many negative headlines this year that a video spreading love was just what we needed. Some claimed the kisses were fake and the people shown were couples, but I don't believe that. Thumbs up to Tatia Pilieva for a great video!

Now I know I haven't addressed quite a lot of topics, however I felt like staying on the positive side of things to end this year. Of course I am aware of the many tragic deaths, e.g. Robin Williams or Peaches Geldof - Rest in Peace. Also send out your thoughts to the victims of the air plane crashes and war zones when you are welcoming the New Year today.
I hope you had the best year ever, make sure you use every single day of 2015 to improve yourself and the world around you! I love you lots!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I love looking at photos of beautiful things, but if that is not you forte, just skip this blog post.

Last minute DIY gifts

Only a few days left for Christmas shopping and everyone is stressing out. But instead of struggling with the other million of last minute shoppers, how about you try and make something yourself. DIY gifts are getting more and more popular and I've collected three gift ideas that people would actually want to get (I've tested them all).
Soo get out the artist inside you and let's get started:

WOODEN LETTERS

Supereasy to make and they look really cute. Personalise them by using the first letter of the person's name your giving it to. They are also really fun to make, as you will see I've gone a bit crazy and made quite a lot.
All you'll need are wooden letters (you can find them in every art shop and sometimes even drug stores), acrylic paint and things to decorate with, e.g. glitter, gems,...

Here are some examples of how I decorated the letters:

Here I went on pinterest to search for cute patterns and found this adorable macaroons one. Since I knew my friend loves them it was just perfect. This is another way to make it even more personal!

I actually really like how it turned out, I just used acrylic paint. Make sure the different layers are dry before you paint over it.

Everyone loves some hearts - show them your love <3

This is my favourite one, I found this adorable pattern on pinterest and it turned out so cute! Feel free to copy my ideas and send me pictures of it on Twitter.

A glittery one - glam it up a bit!

Final one with some gems. As I said just go crazy with it, you'll see it's so much fun.

CHRISTMAS COOKIE BAGS

Those are perfect for literally everyone. Edible presents are my favourite, because who doesn't love yummy food?
All you need to do is make some Christmas cookies, I used a random recipe for these but I have a blog post on how to bake traditional German Christmas cookies. Afterwards you just put them in clear, small gift bags and decorate them with ribbon and a small Christmas card which you can find literally everywhere! And voila, you have a pile of amazing gifts.

PERSONALISED TRAVEL MUG

Disclaimer: this is my sister's Christmas gift, so hey if you're reading this, please stop right now!!

LOTR fans you might recognise what this is. However you don't need to make it 'Lord of the Rings' themed. I chose this idea because I know my sister loves the film but you can do whatever the person you're giving it to loves! All you need is acrylic paint or sharpies and a plastic travel mug (mine's from poundland).
I started of with painting the mug white as a base and printing out a silhouette of the fellowship of the rings. I then cut it out and glued it on with PVA glue. To make it look painted on I went over the silhouette with black sharpie. I also added the quote 'not all those who wander are lost' above it with sharpie (make sure it is a waterproof one). To seal it all in I used a Plasti-kote spray (find it here) but you could also use hairspray. Make sure you wash the inside out with boiling water before you wrap it!
You seriously can paint this any way you want, if you're stuck for ideas just google cute mugs and it'll give you plenty of options.

Add some sweets and maybe a nail polish in the cup to make it an even better gift!

Now just wrap it all up and you're done. Easy DIY gift ideas that you can even make the day before Christmas.
I hope you liked this post, please send me pictures if you recreate anything!
I love you all lots, have the best Christmas EVER <3

Ultimate Gift Guide - everything under £20

Who else is stressing out because they don't have all their Christmas presents yet? I know I definitely am. I also know just how expensive Christmas time can be, but an amazing present doesn't always have to cost a lot.
Therefore I have compiled a list of present ideas that are super inexpensive! Let's get started:

This, ladies and gents, is a mirror. Perfect for all the cookie lovers out there because lets be serious - who doesn't need a little pocket mirror that's cookie shaped? Find it here.

I couldn't NOT include this. This is so fascinating, basically it is white until you step on it and then it turns red wherever you touched it. A fun bath mat that is perfect for scaring your guests. I would love to get this as a present ;) Find it here.

Don't worry Disney addicts, I've got you sorted. Buy this super cute 7 dwarfs necklace here.

Any blogger would love this. A camera travel mug!!!! Probably my most expensive gift on this list with £15.99 , but it would be so worth it! Imagine all the confused looks you'd get on the street. Just don't get it mixed up with the actual camera ;) Find it here.

HARRY POTTER FANS WATCH OUT! This is a bow with marauder's map print <3 Who wouldn't adore this? Find it here.

This star nightlight just screams cuteness! It's a great gift for that person you don't know too well. It even changes colours :D. Find it here.

Chalkboard mugs are (in my opinion) the best invention ever. Who doesn't love tea and doodling. Write a cute message on it and it makes the perfect little Christmas gift! Find it here.

Bracelets have been the go-to gift idea for generations and it will stay that way! Find this adorable owl one here.

Um... can we just appreciate this for a minute. How cute is this? An owl bag in the satchel style. And it's so inexpensive. You have no reason to not buy this for your friend. Find it here.

These Alice in Wonderland inspired studs are perfect for Secret Santa (if you have a girl) or just a little present on the side. Find them here.

We all have that one arty friend who I am sure would love this wooden fridge magnet. It's truly banterous ;) Find it here.

And finally this heart wall poster. Perfect for anyone who loves decorating their room and making everything look pinterest worthy! Find it here.

I really hope you found this helpful, I personally love all the things listed.
Comment down below which one is your favourite and if you will get any of these things as a present.

Hope you'll have the best Christmas ever and get all your present shopping done in time.
Lots of love <3

The Christmas Tag

Time to get real. Thanks to the lovely Kerry for tagging me!

1. What is your favourite Christmas movie?
It's Elf :) Just joking I've actually never seen that film before oops. Anyway my favourite Christmas movie is The Polar Express. It's just the cutest movie ever and it brings back so many good memories from when I was little.

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas eve or Christmas morning?
Surprisingly even though I live in the UK I open my presents on Christmas Eve. I was born in Germany and have many relatives there so we traditionally celebrate it on the 24th, as this is the official Christmas day there.

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
I honesty can't think of a particular one. I thought it was really special way back when me and my sister (SPOILER) still believed in Santa Claus but every Christmas is just so amazing. Spending time with all your family and making them happy is just the best thing ever.

4. Favourite festive food?
Well we usually have fish and baguette as Christmas dinner but my favourite food is all the Christmas cookies. My Grandma makes hundreds every year and they are just sooo good. I recently tried making some cookies myself which made me feel very festive!

5. Favourite Christmas gift?
Oh I really don't know. I'm so thankful for all the gifts I get but I especially love the ones where the person it's from has put it some thought and love (so probably everything). I do remember getting my cats as a Christmas gift tho and I still love them endlessly!

6. Favourite Christmas scent?
The Christmas tree and that of someone cooking/baking. I mean I love that scent all year round because I love food but at Christmas time it's just that tiny bit more amazing.

7. Do you have any Christmas eve traditions?
As I said before we actually give present then and we also have a lovely dinner. Afterwards my whole family sits together and sings some songs (cringe I know) and just enjoys the evening.

8. What tops your tree?
A really cute silver star that we've had for ages! I think its several generations old.

9. As a kid, what was one crazy gift you asked for but never received?
I'm pretty sure I asked for a dolphin. I had a few years where I was absolutely obsessed with dolphins (bit of a weird obsession for a kid if you ask me) so instead of a real one I just got several toy ones. It's not as if I still have them somewhere... ;)

10. What's the best part of Christmas for you?
Time to say the cliche: Spending time with my family. It's true though, It is the only time in the year where I see them all at once and actually have time to talk to them. I also adore seeing the people I love receiving gifts that make them happy (hopefully the ones I got them).

I hope you enjoyed this post, I tag everyone reading this!
Have the most amazing Christmas ever!!!!!
